DRUM STYLES
From your first stick
to your first solo.
Every drumming path needs the right teacher. Tell us what you want to play and we'll match you with the instructor who knows that style cold.
Drum Set
Rock, pop, and contemporary kit drumming. Build your stick grip, basic beats, fills, and the groove that makes a band a band. The most popular starting point.
Concert Percussion
Xylophone, marimba, timpani, and orchestral percussion. The path to honor band, all-state, and conservatory percussion programs.
Marching & Drumline
Snare, tenors, bass, and battery technique for school marching bands and drum corps prep. Rudiments, sticking, and the discipline that wins competitions.
Jazz Drumming
Brush technique, swing feel, comping, and improvisation. Whether you're playing in a school jazz band or sitting in at a Sacramento jam session.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
Technique that lasts.
Grooves that move.
Every drum lesson at Tamraloo is built on a foundation of clean technique and musical context. We teach you HOW to play, but more importantly we teach you WHY each pattern works in the music it lives in.
● Stick grip & technique. Matched grip, traditional grip, rebound, and the fundamentals that prevent injury and enable speed.
● The 40 essential rudiments. Single strokes, doubles, paradiddles, flams, drags — the alphabet of drumming.
● Reading drum notation. Sheet music, charts, and the ability to learn new pieces fast.
● Genre fluency. Rock, jazz, Latin, funk, gospel, marching, classical — whatever you want to play.
● Playing with others. Locking in with bass players, following a click, and being the drummer every band wants in their lineup.
