RESEARCH-BACKED INTERVENTION
"If children with reading delays receive appropriate intervention by grade 3, future reading problems can be diminished or eradicated."
— Decades of literacy research
WHEN TO REACH OUT
If reading time at home
has become a battle.
Many parents come to us after months or years of trying to help their child catch up at home. If any of these sound familiar, an assessment will give you a clear picture of where your child is and what will help.
Avoiding Reading
Your child resists picking up a book, finds reasons to delay reading time, or shuts down when asked to read out loud.
Letter or Sound Confusion
Mixing up similar letters (b/d, p/q), trouble blending sounds into words, or guessing words from pictures instead of reading them.
Slow Progress at School
Teacher mentions reading is below grade level, or progress reports show concerns. Your child knows they're "behind" and it's affecting confidence.
Comprehension Gaps
Your child can read words on a page but can't recall or explain what they just read. Reading and understanding are separate skills.
THE PROGRAM
Built around your child.
Backed by Dr. Vogt’s structured literacy method.
Literacy intervention starts with a comprehensive diagnostic so we know exactly where the gaps are. From there, your child meets weekly with an experienced reading specialist who customizes lessons to their needs and pace.
Literacy Intervention & Enrichment (LIE)
Each child begins with a 45–60 minute diagnostic assessment that identifies their specific reading needs. Within about a business week of the assessment, you'll receive a written summary by email with concrete recommendations. From there, weekly one-on-one tutoring builds the foundational and grade-level skills your child needs.

METHODOLOGY
Dr. Vogt’s structured literacy method
WHY IT WORKS
Structured. Multisensory.
Calibrated to your child.
The Tamraloo LIE program is built on a structured literacy methodology developed by Dr. MaryEllen Vogt, PhD — Distinguished Professor Emerita at CSU Long Beach and a member of the International Reading Hall of Fame. It’s evidence-based reading intervention designed for students who struggle with traditional whole-language instruction.
● Phonemic awareness. Hearing, identifying, and manipulating individual sounds in words — the foundation everything else builds on.
● Phonics & decoding. Letter-sound correspondences taught explicitly and systematically, from simple to complex patterns.
● Multisensory technique. Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning combined — tracing letters while saying sounds, building words with tiles, movement and rhythm.
● Cumulative practice. New skills introduced only after previous skills are mastered. Nothing gets glossed over.
● Confidence rebuilding. Many of our students arrive certain they're "bad at reading." Watching them realize they can do this is one of our favorite parts of the job.

HOW IT WORKS
From assessment
to confident reader.
Every student starts with a comprehensive diagnostic. That assessment is the foundation everything else is built on — without it we'd be guessing.
STEP 1
Schedule Your Assessment
Call (916) 664-2516 or use the form to schedule a 45–60 minute diagnostic. The fee is $100, applied to your first month of tuition if you enroll.
STEP 3
If LIE is the right fit, weekly 45-minute sessions begin with a specialist matched to your child's age and needs. Month-to-month, no long-term contract.
STEP 2
Receive Recommendations
Within about one business week, you'll receive a written summary of your child's reading profile by email, with specific recommendations for next steps.
STEP 4
Ongoing communication with parents about wins, challenges, and recommendations to support reading at home. Reassessment as your child progresses.
My child loves going. Before we started it was a struggle to even get there. Now she doesn't blink an eye. Her confidence in reading has grown leaps and bounds. It's expensive, but well worth the price once you see your child happy.
